Wuxi Mey Blossom Garden

Wuxi Mey Blossom Garden is a famous Jiangnan garden which located on the north of Lake Taihu, south of Dragon Hill. It is main part of National Scenic Spot Zone — Lake Taihu Scenic Spot Area.Also it isNational Culture Relic Protection Unit.

It is started in 1912 by two outstanding Wuxi Industrialists Rong Zongjin and Rong Desheng who purchased a small peach garden and turned it to a Mey Blossom Garden with the aim of “Contributing Fragrance to the world”. It is said that the garden begins with planting 1000 Mey trees, and it was made to expanding with more 3000 Mey trees added. In 1955, Mr Rong Desheng’s son, Rong Yiren, former vice -President of P.R. China, rendered the garden to local government. It is one of the established attractions specially for Mey blossoms in Jiangnan. The garden appears strikingly novel with the hillsides embellished with the blossoming Mey trees, with all the buildings like the pagoda & pavilion properly set among them.

Nowadays, the garden consists of three parts: Mey Blossom Area, Garden Exhibition Hall, Huaxi Scenic Area.

“It is a picture with hills around, you can enjoy the flowers every day of whole year.” Mey Blossom Garden has become a famous scenic spot. Inside you can enjoy the natural landscape, historical site, rare flowers and grass, and Buddhist culture.

Mey Blossom Garden has a long history of cultivating Lamei. There are more than 1,200 Lamei trees in the park, and nearly 400 pots of Lamei piles. Mainly distributed on both sides of the main road, Gumeiqi Stone Garden and Lamei Hospital in North District. Every winter, the flowering period is roughly from December to February.

In addition to the plums, there are many varieties such as red plums, green pheasants, gongfen, and beauty plums, which are mainly distributed in five areas of Rong’s Plum Garden, Gumeiqi Stone Garden, Ningxiang Road, Dongheng Mountain and Beiyuan. Concentrated from late January to the end of March. The best viewing period is from February to mid-March. During this period, Mey Blossom Garden will hold the annual “Wuxi Plum Blossom Festival”.
