Main body:

Suzhou is known as the “Water Paradise”, and summer is the season most related to water, so how can you miss a summer trip to Suzhou? To avoid the summer heat during the day, you can choose to experience the cool and quaint summer nights of Suzhou by enjoying the wonderful performances of Wangshi Garden night tour.

The Wangshi Garden is known as the “Small but Beautiful Garden ” (XiaoYuan Ji Ze in Chinese)”. It means Wangshi Garden is the typical model of small gardens, with impressive landscape and design in spite of its small size, showing a deep and serene artistic atmosphere. The Wangshi Garden is not an ordinary garden. It used to be a private residence and had owners changed for several times. Owners were  refined scholars at that time, who left poems on inscriptions in the garden. After several rounds of designs and repairs by the owners as time passed by, the Garden finally becomes a masterpiece of classical gardens today.

“Wangshi”, or “Master of the Nets”, refers to the fisherman, so “the Master of the Nets Garden” means “the dwelling place of idle people who often sit around, like the fishermen”. The landscape layout and the title of the scenic spots in the garden all contain a strong sense of seclusion. The Wangshi Garden covers an area of only 8 mu (about 5,400 square meters), which is less than one-sixth of the Zhuozheng Garden (Humble Administrator’s Garden). However, every corner in Wangshi Garden is worth appreciating, where the buildings are known for beautiful models and small and exquisite design. Especially, the pavilions next to the pool have the characteristics of “small, dripping, and transparent”. Among them, the Dian Chun Ji (literally meaning Peony Study) is used as the model for the “Ming Xuan” classic Chinese garden, or Astor Court, at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. Decoration of the interior furniture is also exquisite and elegant.

In particular, the Wangshi Garden is the only classical garden in Suzhou open for tourists at night. In summer, even the most exquisite and beautiful gardens may still make people feel restless and dull with the air filling with steaming heat and noisy voices. But when the night falls, taking a 90-minute walk around a small but tasteful garden to enjoy the night view and enjoy various special performances along the way will be an unmissable experience.

In summer nights, the daytime heat fades, and the evening breeze cools down. Guided by the maid carrying palace lanterns, visitors will start the night tour in this garden which, as if, stands aloof from the world.

The Wangshi Garden illuminated by the lights shows its stunning beauty. The bright lights decorate some parts of the garden, presenting the beauty which is overlooked by us during the day.
