Drive to Zhuhu Wetland Park of Gaoyou for the Ecological Beauty of a Water Town

The Zhuhu Wetland Park is located on the bank of the misty Gaoyou Lake in the Huxi New District. It is surrounded by the Grand Canal and the Beijing-Shanghai Expressway in the east, the Gaoyou Lake Bridge to its north, and the S611 Lakeside Avenue to its west. The construction of the ecological area, which covers an area of about 3,000 mu, took eight years. Currently, the first phase covers an area of more than 2,200 mu, with a dining area of 5,000 square meters that can host 2,000 customers at the same time. In addition, there are 90,000 square meters of Zhuhu Parent-Children Amusement Park, 6,600 square meters of Scientific Workshops, China’s Mobile Museum of Science and Technology, over 1,600 mu of garden area with 205 different varieties, the yew nursery with more than 20,000 trees, and 120 mu of Reed Flower Wetland Research Area.

The wetland park that combines eight years of ingenuity has thrived alongside the establishment of the Grand Canal Cultural Belt, which deeply excavates the fishing and waterside culture and local and folk customs of Gaoyou. The first phase, covering 2,200 mu, has completed most road paving, river regulation, landscaping, and installation of tourism facilities. As a natural Wetland Park, it integrated the functions of ecological protection, ecological tourism, and ecological education based on a natural wetland reserve with distinct thematic, biological, and environmental characteristics.

The first phase of Zhuhu Wetland Park has been officially opened to the public. With its crisscrossed water network, the park takes pride in its various wetland types. The forest of towering taxodium ascendens is like an oasis on the water, while the lush reeds have created a maze in the lake. Besides, With the blooming lotus flowers accompanying the lush greeneries along the water, it has become the home of more than 100 species of birds, frolicking over the water beneath the endless blue sky. In 2020, the Zhuhu Wetland Park was rated as Yangzhou’s Most Beautiful Autumn Forest and a Top 10 scene along the New Grand Canal. Besides, it has successively won the titles of the National Five-star Rural Tourism Demonstration Area, the Base of Scientific Education of Jiangsu Province, and the Base of Scientific Education of Yangzhou City.
