Chen · Morning Teas Aroma

The Chen period is from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. ,  also called food time in the past. As the name implies, Chen period is the time to eat breakfast.

For generations, Taizhou people like to brew a pot of green tea in the morning with snacks and pastries, starting the day slowly by chatting with family and friends. When you come to Taizhou to have morning tea, you are more than welcomed to adapt to the the local morning tea customs. Only by ordering the recommended three dishes, can you taste the most authentic delicious food.

Sprinkled with shredded radish, diced pickled cabbage, chopped scallions and sesame oil, a bowl of hot and dry shredded tofu is presented to the table by the most simple ingredients and seasonings, becoming the protagonist in the morning tea. Fish noodle soup is the grand finale of the morning tea, with crucian carp boiled white soup base and handmade noodles. This mellow and delicious noodle soup will always leave people with endless aftertaste. Finally, take a bite on a crab roe soup bun, the soup is overflowing, crab roe and pork on the taste buds played the final music.

A simple gluttonous feast, but gives you good appetite. With enough tea and food, a walk after the meal is just perfect.

Wu · Seeking Plum Blossom in Snowy Days

Wu period is a period of time from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. During this period in winter, the sun is often warm and mild compared with that in summer.

Plum Garden, not far from Wuxi City, adjacent to Taihu Lake and covered with plum trees, is a resort perfect for plum blossom appreciation in the south of the Yangtze River. During cold winter, when numerous flowers have already withered, only the flower called lum-mei bloom in such cold temperature. In snowy days, the yellowish flower of this elegant lum-mei is exuding light fragrance, so refreshing particularly in winter’s freezing weather. In Wuxi plum garden, greet the plum fragrance, live up to the good times under the sunshine.

Wei · Ecological Birdwatching

Wei is the period of time between 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m., the sun gradually set in winter during this period.

This is the Yancheng Wetland Rare Bird National Nature Reserve. At this time, millions of migratory birds are chasing the sun from the north to overcome the coldness of winter till the next spring. More than half of the red-crowned cranes in the world come to the Yancheng Wetland to dwell and breed and fly freely every winter, making the unique landscape of this reserve.

To appreciate rare migratory birds, book tickets in advance and put on a pair of comfortable sneakers. In the Red-crowned Crane Wetland Ecotourism Zone in Yancheng, a perfect bird-watching route is already prepared for you. In the bamboo bird-watching house facing the lake, you can watch the most natural ecology closely with a telescope. Take a boat tour through the wetlands, enjoy fish, shrimp and flocks of birds; In the bird-watching base, hide in the jungle and grassland, waiting for the opportunity to capture the most beautiful moment of cranes and elk dancing with the camera.

You · Fishing Boats in the Evening

You is the time period between 5:00 p.m. to7:00 p.m. , also called “sunset”. Watching the sunset scenery, Yangzhou Gaoyou Lake is worth mentioning.

Although the reeds in winter are no longer green, the white reed flowers float with the wind and fall on the shoulders with the setting sun. At this moment, the setting sun gradually slanted and the sun became softer, gradually turning the horizon orange. The vast water surface of Gaoyou Lake was set against the sunset glow, and the skyline was not so obvious. Fishermen in the distance were paddling back with a boat full of fresh fish.

Gaoyou Lake Luweidang Wetland Park is located beside Gaoyou Lake, one of the six major freshwater lakes in China. With beautiful scenery and abundant aquatic products, it can be said that it is a “natural oxygen bar”. When the sun sinks into the sky, we find a small restaurant in the park, where we can enjoy the dishes of duck, fish and shrimp from Gaoyou Lake, and the day’s walk ends.

Winter can magically make people languorous and lazy, but never waste such good time and step out to discover the 12 Shichen of Jiangsu, feel the sweetness of life in winter.
