A New Look of Antiques: Diaohua Building FacebookTwitter

Diaohua buildings here in Gaogang District in Taizhou can trace their history back to Qianlong Era, Qing Dynasty. They have survived warfare and are well preserved till today. Diaohua, literally means that one can find various cutting and carving from decoration of the buildings.

Of all the carving motifs, Wu Fu Lin Men (Five Blessings on the Door, i.e., longevity, affluence, health and safety, morality and prosperity) and Fu Ru Dong Hai (happiness as immense as the Eastern Sea) are the most widely used to express people’s best wishes.

Chaixu Waterscape Block is constructed right close to Diaohua Buildings. Tourists, after visiting the legacy, can have a tour in this block, where they can have a glance of the ancient town with the sound of chimes from a one-thousand-year-old temple. The local traditional culture are showcased in the History and Culture Exhibition Hall at Gaogang District, Enlightenment Hall of Studies of Chinese Ancient Civilization and Three Themed Halls of National Martial Arts Scholar for people to understand.
