Explore the Trace of Ancient Life at the Nanjing Museum of Paleontology

If time can be “frozen”, the Nanjing Museum of Paleontology would be the one to do the magic. Located in the heart of Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, its exhibitions are extracted from 4.6 billion years of the Earth’s history. Whether it was the embryo germination 600 million years ago, the magnificent “explosion” of evolution over 500 million years ago, or the thrilling hunting game of fierce ancient insects 100 million years ago, you can find all the answers here.

The museum’s “Revolution Clock” not only marvels us with the “belated” arrival of human beings, but also inspires our ceaseless exploration. So, where were our ancestors from? What are the stories of life in the long history of revolution?

The museum takes pride in its paleontological collections, mainly invertebrate paleontology, plant paleontology, and microfossils. Among its rich collections and exquisite exhibitions, you can find colorful ammonites, the well-known kylinxia Zhangi, the large ichthyosaur fossils, the rare embryo fossils from the Weng’an biota, the oldest animal footprints on earth from the Ediacaran era, and so on. The remarkable fossil exhibitions will amaze you with the vibrance of life. The most valuable are undoubtedly the specimens of the Chengjiang biota and the Jehol biota that boast of its Sinosaurus fossils, which can be classified as China’s national treasures.

There are other well-designed interactive activities in the museum. You can enjoy fixing a fossil specimen at the Darvin Experimental Station and bring what you’ve made back home at the end of the day, or you can go back to the time of dinosaurs with the 3D glasses on, to have a vivid experience of the wonder of ancient creatures.
