Shaobo Ancient Town 邵伯古镇

Standing in the northeast suburb of Yangzhou City, Shaobo is a historical and cultural famous town in China, a national key town and a demonstration town of national new-style urbanization. The town got the name owing to the assister Xie An in the Eastern Jin Dynasty built earth dam for controlling water and favored the mass people here; with a history of over 1,600 years, it became more and more prosperous in the Tang and Song dynasties. The famous cultural scholars including Su Shi, Huang Tingjian, Wen Tianxiang and Zhu Ziqing etc.from all generations have left poems here which have won universal praises. Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty had six inspection tours in southern China and stopped at Shaobo each time.

Standing at the junction of three rivers as the Yangtze River, Huaihe River and the canal, Shaobo is a cultural town, ecological beautiful town and has been reputed for “connecting to all directions”.

Shaobo is a key water transport town, the important node town along the canal in our country and within its border the ancient canal wharf, ancient transport dike, the ancient path of canal left from the Ming and Qing dynasties and the Huaiyang canal main line have been listed as the significant points and sections in the national application of world heritage.

Shaobo is a famous town of food including Shaobo lobster, sausage, beef, ecological chicken, green shell eggs and Shaobo water chestnut etc.
