Shengtang Temple, or officially called as Dongyue Temple, is located in Yangchenghu Town, Xiangcheng District, Suzhou. With a long history, the Shengtang Temple Fair is an event where local people can reflect their social ideals, psychological demands, and spiritual state, and a place where folk literati and artists can show their talents. Therefore, it is a vital part of traditional culture of Yangchenghu Area. The cultural connotation embodied in Temple Fair shows historical value; while it is of academic significance on spreading Dongyue Culture in Jiangnan Region (the south of Yangtze River) and studying local customs of Yangchenghu Area; furthermore, it shows artistic and aesthetic value by enriching folklore performances.
