Seyuan Garden

Seyuan Garden is the resting place of Zhang Jian, the top scholar in the imperial examination of the late Qing Dynasty. Adhering to the thought of “saving the country through industry”, he personally took part in the activities that promoted the development of modern China’s national industry and education. It is said that Zhang Jian had his own considerations to be buried here because his tomb is right across from the Sword Mountain. The Wenshu Temple at the top of the Sword Mountain looks like a big incense burner. There are two meteorological observatories on both sides of the Junshan Mountain. The cloud towers on the Wolf Mountain are just like a pair of candle holders reaching up into the sky. It means that the incense keeps burning all the year round. The Seyuan Garden is just like its name, a veritable garden. Being the largest precious plants garden in Nantong City, the Seyuan Garden grows more than 200 varieties of towering trees such as pond cypress, sabina chinensis and dove tree. Visitors can be away from the hustle and bustle of the city and return to the nature as well as learn about the whole life of Mr. Zhang Jian.
