China Grand Canal Museum

China Grand Canal Museum, known as CGCM for short, located in the Sanwan Scenic Area of Yangzhou, with a total land area of 200 mu and a total built up area of about 79,000 square meters, is a thematic museum integrating collection, display, research, and education of canal cultural relics, taking tourism, leisure and foreign exchanges into account. As an iconic museum built for the Grand Canal Site National Cultural Park, it was opened in June this year.

There are more than 10,000 pieces (sets) of various cultural relics on the theme of the Grand Canal since the Spring and Autumn period, including ancient books, calligraphy, inscriptions, ceramics, metalware, and miscellaneous items. On the general basis of “the beautiful life resulted from the Grand Canal”, the museum sets two basic displays: “The Grand Canal – A World Cultural Heritage of China”, and “Born at the Right Moment – Impression of the Streets along the Grand Canal”, as well as 9 thematic exhibitions, such as “Vessels on the Grand Canal”, “Fun in the Canal Wetland”, and “The Mystery about the Grand Canal”. The displays and exhibitions showcase the history, culture, ecology and technology of the Grand Canal in a full range, all time period, and all-round way in various forms by means of traditional and modern display technologies, known as the “Encyclopedia” of the Grand Canal of China.Picture: Yangzhou Culture & Tourism
