Nanzha Town of Chuzhou District, Huai’an City, Jiangsu Province is famous throughout the province as “Land of Folk Songs”. It is the birthplace of the Nanzha Folk Songs, which appeared because of the canal. It is also the cradle for the basic melody of Jiangsu folk songs. The emotions for the water and the town embodied in Nanzha Fold Songs lead to the mild, melodious and lyrical vocal features for singing and the singing forms include antiphonal singing. Up until today, there have been a total of over 500 traditional, historical and new folk songs circulating among locals.
