The No. 1 Mountain Crowned with Emeralds and Gold

“If a mountain is not high enough, its fairy will make it renowned. If the water is not deep enough, its dragon will bring charm to it…” Also known for its ancient names Duliangshan and Nanshan, its more popular name, “the No. 1 Mountain,” is granted because the famous poet Mi Pei once praised it as “the No.1 mountain in the southwest” in his poem. Erect nearly a hundred meters high overlooking the south bank of the Huai River, the mountain is known as a provincial-level national forest park and a 4A-level scenic spot.

Each of the four seasons has gifted the No.1 Mountain with distinct picturesque scenery. In winter, different shades of colors intertwine, as if the fairy has spilled her palette when painting. Like strings of golden chimes swaying from the treetops, branches of ginkgo leaves swirl in the breeze, circling the painted walls and dark tiles flattering to brightly carpeted ground. Maple leaves also remain on the branches, splashing the mountain range with splendid colors. The green, the yellow, the crimson and the orange compose the beauty of the winter forest.

In addition to the natural scenery, there are also historical and cultural spots, such as “Nostalgia in the No.1 Mountain”, “Glass Pavilion in the Moon”, “Spring Apricot Garden”, “the Huijing Pavilion Relics”, “Dawn on the Lucky Rock”, and “Hidden Talents for the Eight Immortals Terrace.” As the present views echo the ancient memories, what an unforgettable journey!
