Suqian, A Fresh Promise in Spring

Suqian is a water town embraced by rivers and lakes in the north of Jiangsu Province. Hongze Lake and Luoma Lake, which are like two pearls, together with other river systems like the Grand Canal and the ancient Yellow River, have given rise to the fascinating natural scenery of the city. The green water connects to the blue sky. Because of the water, the spring in Suqian is particularly “fresh”.

Take A Deep Breath in the Forests

In Siyang, Suqian, “the hometown of poplar trees”, there is a place called Pingyuan Linhai, with over 10,000 mu of poplar trees. In the spring, the green trees are forming a special view. Those poplar trees are standing upright and high, with all different kinds of green mixed together in this endless green forest: yellowish green, bright green, light green, emerald green, etc.

Visitors can take a walk through the shadows of the trees, breath the fresh air in the forest, with soft breeze on the face and delightful bird chirping into the ears. The vitality of nature will bring people the “a-ha” moment. The chase and play in the forests may make the visitors feel they’re as if characters in The Wizard of Oz. When the violet orychopragmus, which occupies over 460 mu of land, bloom, the Pingyuan Linhai is nothing but beautiful. The purple flowers cluster around the poplar trees, making the whole place like a fairy land.

Because of the ecology that the forests grow by the water with many elegant birds habituating, every spring, the National Motorcycle Race, Auto Race, and Bike Race will all be held here. People like to go for a trip, take photos, or go camping here, too. Isn’t it energetic and delightful to breathe the fresh air in the beautiful natural forests in the spring?

Daichang Island, Taste the Lake Fresh

Spring is the time for fresh food. In Daichang Island, which is less than 40 li from downtown Suqian, there is all what you can imagine for spring lake fresh food. It is a fishing island deep in the center of Luoma Lake. Like a lotus flower, it blooms on the vast Luoma Lake. There are whitebaits, shrimps, turtles, and mandarin fish… The hard-working fishermen are turning these gifts from nature in Luoma Lake into the delicious dishes of the season to be served on the table.

It seems that there is no boundary of the lake when visitors take a boat to head for Daichang Island. People can see the fisherman fishing and the seagulls flying up high in the sky, like a painting. When landing on the island, visitors will see a peaceful and primitive fishing village. Taking a walk on the bluestone roads in the village, visitors will notice that every household here will have the fishing boats and fishing nets. What a simple life far away from the city hustle and bustle!

Daichang island is the largest one among all islands on Luoma Lake. It also has one of the villages with biggest fishing volume. With the 90,000-mu water area, this place has become a developed fishing base. By going a trip to the island, visitors can get close to the nature, the fish, the boats, and the island. Moreover, they can also enjoy the delicious feast of fresh fishes. Nothing can be a better praise to the spring in Suqian than the bite of the delicious and mouth-watering lake fresh food.
