Fascinating Scenery Trip to Jiawang, Leisure in Landscape

Jiawang is located in the northeastern part of Xuzhou. Long before the Shang and Zhou Dynasties, residents started to live in this district. During the Ming Dynasty of China, there were abundant water and grassland here. In the northeast area, springs gathered to form a river, which is called “Wang” in Chinese. That’s why Jiawang is also known as “city of springs”. Spring water is a gift from nature, adding a vivid and colorful feel to Xuzhou in summer.

Pan’an Lake

When you first come to Pan’an Lake, you must appreciate the beauty of the wetland by taking a gaily-painted pleasure-boat and shuttling through the reeds to enjoy a pleasant time. Rafting on the lake, you can really feel the beauty of nature described as “the limpid brooks are gurgling over the stones” and “the lotuses are surrounding the boats.” The quietness and leisurely atmosphere here come with the natural coolness and comfort. Besides, there is a bird island, which is the home to several hundreds of bird species. The island is planted with dense trees and shrubs that are suitable for birds to exist on, and the surrounding water is filled with rich layers of natural aquatic plants, forming a breeding habitat for the waterfowl and birds. This is not only a place to escape the summer heat, but also to relax and get close to nature.

In the midsummer, the lotuses in Pan’an Lake bloom one by one, forming a graceful view in the fragrant pond. In the evening, the heat fades away, and the quiet lotus pool becomes more vivid and attractive under the afterglow. Being pink, red, white, colorful or with different edges, those lotuses stand on the green leaves, sway with the wind, and send forth fragrance which you can sense before you even get near them.

Fengminghai Scenic Area

Covering an area of about 400 mu, Fengminghai Scenic Area is a natural lake formed by the water from Fengming Spring. “Fengminghai” was first named Fengmingtuan. The last character “Tuan” means that there is a lot of dew. The water in Fengminghai falls from Dadong Mountain based on the topography, and if being viewed from a high place, it looks like the place is composed of drops of dew.

Fengminghai is also a rock-block field. There is a large group of strange stones on the south bank of the scenic spot. The whole group of strange stones extends about 600 meters long from north to south, and about 100 meters wide from east to west. The strange stones are integrated into the natural scenery, either standing by the mountains and the water, or lying in the water, and they’re rugged or flat in various shapes. At the west entrance of Fengminghai Scenic Area, there is the largest piece of China’s garden landscape stone,  “the Fengming Stone”. The stone is overall in an irregularly rectangular shape, with natural patterns and cracks in different directions on the surface, resembling a phoenix. In the upper right corner, there is a hollow space, which is similar to the eye of phoenix, thus bringing the stone great ornamental value.
