China Silk Industry Museum 中国丝绸博物馆

China Silk Industry Museum is located in the old site of Yongtai silk factory, No. 364 in Nanchang Street. The China Silk Industry Museum is planned and designed by Tsinghua University, covering an area of nearly 10,000 square meters. It is divided into five exhibition areas, namely, silk kingdom, century-old glory, silk weaving & cocoon massage, printing and dyeing clothes and performance exhibition and sales.

In the existing old cocoon factory warehouse and office building are all important buildings that have witnessed the development of Wuxi’s modern ethnic industry and commerce. In 2003, it was announced as a cultural relic protection unit of Wuxi. In the design and cloth exhibition, the original expression technique was adopted to restore the indoor scene, reproduce the historical elegant demeanour of Yongtai silk factory and the “Silk Capital”, and witness the role of Wuxi serving as a link between past and future in the history of China’s silk industry.

The China Silk Industry Museum is a large-scale silk industry cultural theme museum that comprehensively displays Chinese silk culture, Wuxi silk industry culture, traditional silk weaving technology and silk products with modern audio and visual technologies. The silk thread is used as the material element in front of and behind the exhibition area and runs through the two buildings, implying the countless links between different areas.
