Zhang Jian Memorial Hall 张謇纪念馆

Located at Changle Town, Haimen City, Jiangsu Province, Zhang Jian Memorial Hall has been built for commemorating Mr. Zhang Jian. As a southern China garden style building, the memorial hall was listed as a city culture relic protection site in 1988, named as “Jiangsu Province Patriotism Education Base”by Jiangsu Province Department of Propaganda in 2002 and selected as a Grade AAAA scenic area in March 2019.

The main building of the memorial hall has the Display Hall, Reception Hall and Movie & Video Hall.

The display materials are divided into five parts in terms of the birth & growth, saving the country by industry, revitalizing the country by education, social undertaking and memorial study.

Zhang Jian, born at Changle Town, Haimen City, Jiangsu Province on May 25th, 1853, was a Number One Scholar in the late Qing Dynasty, an industrialist and an educator; he was one of the explorers of Chinese modern national industry and his “industry as father and education as mother”proposition and practice has had very profound historical significance.

In his lifetime, Zhang Jian has established more than 20 enterprises and over 370 schools, resulting in very valuable contributions for the rising of Chinese modern national industry and the development of educational undertaking.
