Fengxian County is well known as the “Fruit Capital” because there is the largest pear orchard with continuous lands in Jiangsu Province. Baishu pear is not only an important income for fruit farmers, but also pear flower has become Fengxian County’s unique cultural brand and city symbol.
The Century-Old Pear Orchard is also called “Ancient Pear Tree Forest Park”. The pear orchard is about 1,200 meters wide from east to west and 1,300 meters long from north to south. The core area covers about 148 acres. The ancient pear trees in the park are shaped like a dragon and in thousands of poses. It is the most famous and spectacular ancient pear tree forest park in Jiangsu and even in China. It is also a precious historical culture and natural resource heritage.
The Century-Old Pear Orchard is about 200 years old after investigation and research, which can be confirmed as the oldest and largest ancient pear tree group in Xuzhou. There are 668 pear trees over 180 years old in the park. The oldest one was planted during the Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty, about 500 years ago. The extraordinary spectacle one in shape which is 200 years old was planted during the Jiaqing period of the Qing Dynasty. The largest ancient pear tree has a diameter of more than 80 cm and a crown diameter of 15 meters and its annual output is about 2 tons, which is the champion of the Century-Old Pear Orchard and is called “the king of pear trees”.
Whenever the Qingming season, thousands of pear trees compete to blossom in the acres of the pear orchard. It looks like a sea of flowers, which creats a good place for tourists to have fun, flower admiring, poem reciting, painting, and lyric making.
